Have you ever been frustrated by the built-in trackpad on your notebook – wishing you could use your mouse but couldn’t find a flat surface to operate it on?

New Zealand based company Simtrix today unveiled the solution to this, and other common mouse problems, with its Swiftpointâ„¢ family of products. Combining enhanced efficiency, an intuitive feel along with a powerful design statement, the Swiftpoint represents a radical new mouse technology poised to finally allow consumers to enjoy the full power of a desktop mouse & keyboard within a mobile environment.

The first Swiftpoint product, the Swiftpoint TriPedâ„¢, is designed primarily for Tablet PCs and multi-touch tabletop surfaces. The device provides seamless transitioning between mouse, pen, and text entry without introducing any of the compromises typically associated with pen or touch based interfaces.

The Swiftpoint Sliderâ„¢, the second Simtrix device, holds broader market appeal as it fits the rapidly growing ‘mobile’ sector of “laptop-on-the-go” and home media center living room environments. Here, the lack of desktop space makes the use of traditional mice problematic if not impossible. The ‘Slider’, as the name suggests, resolves this dilemma by an ingenious design concept whereby it ’slides’ over keyboard keys transforming the keyboard area into a large ‘mouse pad’.

Grant Odgers – the inventor, and Chief Technical Officer of Simtrix, says that computing environments are changing rapidly, observing that “…computer use is no longer restricted to traditional work or home office environments, just take a look around any busy airport, café or on a train – you’re pretty much guaranteed to see someone using a computer. More recently the increased popularity of internet connected media centers and latest generation gaming consoles has lead to a huge increase in living room computers. It’s now common for someone to have access to their computer while sitting on their sofa.”
